Challenge
The requirement
Exhibition halls, a large convention centre, atriums and service cores created widely different opening geometries. The brief required both large-area smoke barriers and compact lift-lobby fire curtains, curtain drops of up to 16.5 metres, a continuous curved boundary of about 100 metres, coordinated multi-bay activation, fire-alarm/BMS integration, and phased installation across the redevelopment.
Solution
How it was delivered
Automatic smoke curtains were deployed across seven halls at ground and first floor. Fire curtains were installed at the Convention Centre's Multi-Purpose Hall and Podium Hall and at six service-core lift lobbies. A multi-bay curved-plan system formed a continuous compartmentation line of approximately 100 metres, with gravity fail-safe deployment and coordinated activation across modules.
Engineering and site execution
The project was delivered in phases aligned with the wider construction programme. Curtain widths, heights, drop requirements and operating configurations were coordinated opening by opening.
A roof collapse within the Convention Centre Multi-Purpose Hall left testing and commissioning of that zone subject to structural rectification, while work across remaining areas continued and was completed.
